Christmas came early in the Rhee household

Tuesday, December 20, 2011 - Posted by Jullie at 11:00 AM
So those who know me, understand how much I LOVE and adore these Kitchenaid standmixers. Unfortunately, I could not justify paying for these mixers on our budget right after marriage, especially since I was in grad school and we just bought a house. All my baking was done using an electric mixer or elbow grease =).

Lucky for me, I have the best hubby who finally made my dream come true! Oh the convenience, the simplicity, and the beauty of these machines.. I just couldn't wait until it arrived. We agreed that we would be able to open our gifts early, but only when we definitely needed to use them.

Hubby asked for rotisserie attachment for his grill. Last week he had to open his present early so we could cook pork tenderloin for some friends who came over for dinner, while testing it out for Christmas dinner. (Very important dinner, since we'll be hosting my side of the family for the first time in our home).

So I patiently waited for the right time to open my gift, it was hard at first knowing that it was sitting right there under the tree. I did get distracted last week with the cold and busy buying/making other gifts. Finally, the time has come, I needed to bake cookies for our small group cookie exchange party, so we decided one very late night to get the standmixer out, and here are my expressions:

I know what you might be thinking... so crazy to be excited over a little machine. But I am so very thankful. My way to thank and bless others is to bake and share my crafts. So I hope you all can be blessed by my future goodies.

What did I make with it first? COOKIES, for our oikos groups 1st Cookie Exchange Party!

Merry Christmas Everybody! Hope you have an amazing time celebrating this joyous holiday with loved ones.

Butler's Orchard

Every season there's always a must-do activity planned. For example;

winter: sight see amazing Christmas decorations, complain about the cold, forgetting to get my car waxed before the snow/ice (as you can tell winter is not my favorite season).

spring: visit DC to see cherry blossoms on the tidal basin
summer: beach trips, carnival/fair, outdoor movie festivals
fall: explore fall foliage either in the Shenandoah, Old town Alexandria, somewhere on the GW parkway, and of course visit the pumpkin patch!!!!

Over the weekend, Mr. Rhee and I along with our close friends the Lee's visited Butler's Orchard for their annual Pumpkin Festival! I think little E enjoyed the petting zoo part, while we enjoyed the corn maze and the pumpkin cannon!

Yay for not getting lost in the corn maze!

My favorite thing to do, is shooting pumpkins out of the cannon. Surprisingly, when it was my turn, the pumpkin Mr. Rhee chose for me hit the target that was sitting on top of a van! First one to do it all day apparently. The best part was when the target got knocked down, I of course screamed in excitment... it made my day.. no week! =)

Before we left, we had to stop by the market to see all the goodies on sale. I ended up buying a few more mini pumpkins.... to glitter later that day =D

Hope all the young adults at church enjoy their hayride/bonfire night at Butler's this weekend! Glitterred pumpkins post coming soon!

goodbye summer nights... hello fall!

I must say, this summer felt like it went by super fast! As much as I do not like the hot humid Maryland weather, summer was nice because of it's smell... yes smell... I love the smell of the beach, and cool brisk air at night. So as my farewell to summer, I must reminisce the past few months. These are some pictures from Hawaii trip earlier this year.

Our new friend born in June right after our vacation =)
college friends reunion in LA
last minute visits to my cousins on the west coast

Summer is also great because it's both me and Mr. Rhee's birthday

And... we also celebrated our 1st Wedding Anniversary this year, we went back to DC for some delicious crab cakes, and went to visit our engagement site: the Jefferson Memorial

The restaurant was right next to the White House, so we took a quick stroll before heading to the memorial.

Although we had a pretty good season, Fall is definitely my favorite season for many reasons:
1.The colors/ fall foliage
2. The indefinite number of pumpkins, apples, and leaves
3. The cool air, and many different wardrobe options =)
4. The activities...hiking, apple picking, camping, sight seeing, etc..
5. Crafting, I recently just made my fall wreath, hopefully I'll post about it soon!!!
5. THE BAKING! I have so many new fall treats planned, can't wait to try them!

Today, I will leave you with one of my latest craft projects, a new addition to our living room:

I painted these canvas' with a fun aqua blue and mounted a cute wall decal I got from Single Stone Studios.
I wanted a continuing picture, so it was cut into sections, then mounted, and finish!

Now I look back on it, the color may be a little bright for my living room, but it definitely gives a pop of color! On the plus side it matches my leaves & bird theme. Can't wait until the room is complete!

A lot more to post soon, so stay tuned!

Love,
Jullie

Happy Birthday Mr. Rhee!

Wednesday, August 3, 2011 - Posted by Jullie at 10:43 PM

Yesterday, was my hubby's 32nd birthday! I'm not sure how he feels about me posting his age to all of blog world, but I can assure you that he's still a youthful man. I'm so thankful for him because he is such a great husband; one who cooks for me when I don't feel like it, puts up with romantic comedies whenever I want to watch it, and most importantly leads our family through the best and worst times. Those may be just a few of the reasons why I love him so much, didn't even scratch the surface! But I didn't want to bore you with all this mushy lovey stuff.

Anyway, I wanted to give him a great birthday, and all he asked was to have a quiet night with his family. Luckily we have family who live close by! Couldn't really decorate due to poor time management on my end. But the lack of decorations in our new home gave us the perfect canvas to hang a little "happy birthday" banner. (Thanks to my sis-in law and bro-in law for hanging it).

On the dinner menu was: spicy shrimp sandwiches with chipotle avocado mayonnaise, zucchini fries, and pasta salad. A tangy sparkling lemonade for refreshments and to finish it off, was Eugene's favorite summer dessert: Peach Cobbler with vanilla ice cream!! yummm

I hope you had a very special birthday hubby! You deserve only the best!

Oh, and I bet you're wondering what I got him... well... how does a new grill sound?

It's kind of a birthday/anniversary gift =) We will post more bbq deliciousness once he finishes assembling it.
Happy grilling!

Love, Jullie
